Training contracts
Speechly Bircham divides the training contract into four six-month seats. As we only take on ten trainees per year, emphasis is given to early responsibility and supervised client contact, providing you with a practical learning environment.
What makes Speechly Bircham an attractive option for a training contract ?
We can offer an unusually diverse range of seats during your training contract including property litigation, employment, tax, construction, commercial litigation, corporate, banking and finance, financial services, IP/IT, pensions, private client, contentious trusts, family and property.
What can I expect to earn as a trainee?
Salaries for trainees in their first seat start at £31,000 and increase by £1,000 at each seat to £34,000 in the fourth seat. Newly qualified solicitors are currently paid £56,000. Salaries are reviewed annually. Other benefits include life assurance, private medical insurance, an interest free season ticket loan, a stakeholder pension and 23 days' holiday.
Does Speechly Bircham provide sponsorship?
We offer sponsorship for CPE/GDL and LPC fees, plus a maintenance grant of £5,500 (£6,000 for London/Guildford based students) for the LPC and £5,000 (£5,500 for London/Guildford based students) for the CPE/GDL.
Who should apply?
We aim to recruit a cross-section of law and non-law graduates, who have or expect to obtain a 2.1 degree and AAB grades (or equivalent) at A-level. We select graduates from a wide range of universities and disciplines and seek intellectually dynamic individuals with team spirit, a mature outlook and a genuine passion for the law.
What is our approach to diversity?
Speechly Bircham aims to foster a culture based on individual merit, effective teamwork and mutual respect. We seek to create an inclusive environment by ensuring our employment practices do not disadvantage any current or potential employees. We recognise each of our employees is unique and brings a breadth of experience and perspective to our firm and its clients.
What is the selection process?
Candidates are either selected from our summer scheme or from an interview process which takes place during August and September each year.
