Experience: 
Richard advises on all aspects of the employment relationship. He has particular experience and expertise in handling high value claims for breach of contract, unfair dismissal (including whistle-blowing) and discrimination as well as advising on the drafting of relevant contractual documentation and remuneration schemes.  He also advises on the enforcement of restrictive covenants and confidentiality obligations including the particular issues arising on team moves. Richard also advises regularly on the employment related aspects of business transfers. 

Although he advises across a broad range of business sectors, he has a particularly strong track record in the financial services sector.  Richard acts largely for employers but also regularly acts for senior executives.

Richard joined Speechly Bircham in 2006 from Jones Day.   He qualified with Gouldens in 1995 and was made a partner in 2002, prior to the firm’s merger with Jones Day in 2003 where he remained a partner for three years before leaving to join Speechly Bircham.  He obtained his law degree at Cambridge in 1991. 

Richard is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.  He lectures at King’s College London on employment law issues as well as to other external training bodies and to clients.  He has had a number of articles published in trade publications and national newspapers.

Richard is included in the 2009 edition of Legal Experts.
