Philip specialises in the sale and purchase, leasing and letting of high value residential properties, the sale or purchase of high value country houses, agricultural land or estates, general private property advice, residential development schemes, acting for both lender and borrower in connection with mortgages and other loan facilities, leasehold enfranchisement and extension.
Philip works closely with his tax and trust colleagues, both onshore and offshore, construction, planning and employment colleagues to provide a fully ‘joined up’ service to his clients.
Significant work includes:
- acting for high net worth individuals and for trusts and companies, both onshore and offshore, in connection with high value freehold and leasehold properties
- the sale of high value agricultural estates and farming businesses
- acting for foreign banks in connection with mortgages and loan security
- preparation of documentation in connection with the sale of substantial residential developments.
Philip joined Speechly Bircham as a partner in 1999 from Ashurst Morris Crisp, where he was head of the residential property department. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1970.
Philip was ranked in the Spear’s Wealth Management Survey Legal Power Index for his expertise in the field of property.
Philip is a former district and town councillor, and honorary trustee and solicitor to a housing charity for young people and to a playgroup charity. He is also Chair of Governors at an 11-16 Comprehensive school.
