Penny is a leading authority in pensions law with seventeen years’ experience and she has extensive knowledge of all aspects of the subject. Penny heads a thriving 360° practice at Speechly Bircham LLP, which concentrates on 8 core areas – trustees, employers, corporate support, pensions litigation, members, financial services, pension providers, IFAs and benefit advice Penny’s clients range from leading multinational companies with UK subsidiaries to charities.
Recent work includes negotiating with the Pensions Regulator and the Pension Protection Fund; advising on employer covenants and contingent asset advice, merger and acquisition work, and compliance.
Penny joined Speechly Bircham in 2004 and became a partner in 2006. She is a full member of the Association of Pension Lawyers and a founding member of the Pension Lawyers Group. Penny was co-author of the book “Managing Pension Deficits”, published in 2007 and she regularly lectures on topical pension issues, including at the Association of Pension Lawyers’ prestigious Autumn Conference in 2006. Penny has a special interest in charities. In 2008, she helped the Charity Finance Directors Group update their publication, The Pensions Maze, to which Penny first contributed in 2004. Penny qualified as a solicitor in 1991. She is recognised as a leading individual by Chambers 2009 and by Legal 500 and by Legal Expert 2009.
