Experience:
Nick is a specialist litigation lawyer who advises the insurance sector and technology clients. He has more than fourteen years' experience in advising insurers and national and international companies in complex, often multi-jurisdictional, cases. He has dealt with many insurance policy coverage disputes for major insurers arising from disputes in both the UK and abroad where insurance policies are often subject to English law and jurisdiction.
Nick has much experience in large scale IT and telecoms disputes, professional indemnity work covering surveyors, engineers, accountants, brokers and construction professionals and high profile commercial litigation generally. Examples include Lloyds TSB Bank-v-Edward Symmons & Partners (2003); Nyckeln Finance-v- Edward Symmons & Partners (CA 1996 PNCLR) MGA-v- Hurstwood (CA 2002 PNCL10); Mc Nicholas Construction –v- Thames Water (1998 CILL 143) and Total SA v White Nile (CA 2007).
Significant recent work includes:
- AUS $78 million Policy coverage dispute arising from supply of wholesale telecom services in Australia
- Resisting Application for Pre-Action Disclosure made by French multinational in the Court of Appeal
- Policy coverage dispute arising from £250 million claim in respect of failed SAP software implementation.
Nick joined Speechly Bircham in June 2007 after being a partner in his own specialist practice. Former firms include WHCG, Williams Davies Meltzer/Plexus and Freshfields, where he trained and was admitted as a solicitor in 1992. Nick obtained his law degree from the London School of Economics in 1989.
