Experience:
Jonathan specialises in dispute resolution and has been involved in substantial contract, partnership and corporate disputes, professional negligence, class actions and financial services litigation.

His recent work includes:

  • Port of Tilbury v Stora Enso Transport and Distribution & Anr
    Damages claim for £10m in the Technology and Construction Court where Jonathan represented Stora Enso. 
  • Walker Crips Stockbrokers Ltd v Detailplain & Ors
    Claim against a Canadian resident fraudster and his British stockbroker who sought to make money out of a “pump and dump” scheme by dealing in American “pink sheet” securities.  Jonathan represented Walker Crips.
  • DHL GBS (UK) Ltd v Fallimento Finmatica SPA
    Jonathan represented Finmatica in resisting an attempt to stay an appeal which brought the conflict of laws on execution of foreign judgments into sharp focus.  In rejecting DHL’s application Mr Justice Tomlinson applied the case of West Tankers, an ECJ decision.

In addition, Jonathan leads the banking team in defending claims against the firm’s banking clients across a wide range of financial service and regulatory issues.

Jonathan joined Speechly Bircham in 2009 when it merged with Campbell Hooper Solicitors LLP with whom he had been a partner since 1993 and head of the litigation team since 1996. Jonathan qualified as a solicitor in 1985.

Interests include Life Member of the Royal Automobile Club and consistent user of its gym.
