Experience:
John specialises in high-level ancillary relief and co-authored the guide for practitioners to the new rules for financial applications published by Butterworths, for whom he recently lectured on child support issues. His clients include city professionals, international business people and financiers, and those whose finances are bound up with landed estates and family trusts. He is known for his approachability when acting for clients who are financially inexperienced and feel vulnerable in the divorce process.
John has also developed considerable expertise in dealing with complex children disputes, including those where there are cross-border issues.
Chambers 2010 described John as possessing "a steely determination to do his best for the client", which he couples with a “refreshing, straight to the point and enthusiastic” approach (Chambers 2009).
Although John “isn’t afraid to put up a fight” (Chambers 2009), he is also a Resolution trained collaborative lawyer, enabling him to offer a non-litigious option in appropriate cases. He is also a fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and a member of the International Bar Association.
John joined Speechly Bircham as a partner in May 2008 from Hughes Fowler Carruthers, where he had been a partner for six years. His initial training was at the bar, at what is now Hare Court, and subsequently at Manches. John obtained his degree in law from Oxford University.
