Experience:
John’s experience includes all aspects of private client and related tax work. He specialises in tax planning for UK and non-UK nationals and advises on wills, trusts and related matters. He also specialises in the creation and reorganisation of a wide variety of UK and offshore tax mitigation structures.
Significant work includes the design of Revenue-approved inheritance-tax planning techniques, utilising trusts to maximise use of tax-free allowances.
John joined Speechly Bircham in 1988 and became a partner in 1993. He trained at Dawson & Co and was admitted as a solicitor in 1986. John obtained his degree in politics and philosophy at Lancaster University, and has a DPhil in politics and philosophy from Balliol College, Oxford.
John has published numerous articles on tax in the Sunday Times, the Financial Times, the Daily Telegraph and other newspapers and technical journals.
