Ranked in the legal directories, Charles continues to lead the property services team for The Royal Bank of Scotland both South of the border and internationally, and is the client relationship partner for RBS.
During the year, he has continued to act as lead real estate lawyer in the closing aspects of the sale and leaseback disposal of the portfolio of 62 major operational properties by RBS to TeleReal and The Prudential (shortlisted as Deal of the Year by Property Week Awards) and led the restructuring and disposal of Coutts long leasehold interest at 440 The Strand with the Crown Estate.
He has completed lease re-gears for RBS and continues to advise on the 300,000 sq ft City refurbishment for RBS at Aldgate Union. He provides strategic advice in relation to the Bank’s GB and International occupational portfolio.
He heads up the department’s development team and advises on mixed use developments. During the year he has advised on the restructuring of a 250,000 sq ft office/loft/retail and residential urban regeneration project in Bristol.
Charles joined Speechly Bircham as a partner in 1990 and became Head of Real Estate in 1997. He trained in London and was admitted as a solicitor in 1971. He has been a legal director for a publicly quoted property development company and is a member of the firm’s management committee.
