8 May 2008

City law firm Speechly Bircham LLP has appointed the highly regarded pensions lawyer, Graham Chrystie, from Halliwells where he was a partner and Head of the London Pensions team. Graham joins the firm this week as a Consultant.

Graham has a wealth of experience in the field, gained in private practice and in the life and pensions industry. He was a partner in Taylor Wessing for five years.

A particular highlight in Graham’s career was bringing a test case before the House of Lords arguing whether Britons who retired abroad should have their pensions uprated. If the case had been successful, it would have cost the government at least £400 million per annum.

Head of Pensions Penny Cogher comments, “Our principal aim is to help companies mitigate their pensions costs, and to generate innovative ideas which allow scheme trustees improve and enhance effective governance and risk management.”

“We are delighted that someone of Graham's experience is joining our senior pensions team to further grow the practice. His particular experience in pension disputes and reorganisation, acting for both international clients and charity pension funds, complements our existing practice very well.”

Graham is dual qualified in England and Scotland.
