Speechly Bircham advises the administrators of MFI

5 January 2009

City law firm Speechly Bircham is advising restructuring and insolvency specialists MCR, the joint administrators for furniture retailer MFI Group Limited.

Following the unsuccessful management buy out of the business in October 2008, MCR was appointed administrators of MFI at the end of November 2008.  Whilst the business has not been saved as a going concern, Speechly Bircham has continued to advise on the closure process and sale of various elements of the business including advice on employment and intellectual property issues.

Speechly Bircham’s team is led by partner and Head of Insolvency and Corporate Recovery, Christopher Harlowe.  He is assisted by solicitors Simon Ridpath, Amy Gallimore and Nicola O’Donoughe.

This is the second administration Speechly Bircham has advised MCR in recent months. In August, the Speechly Bircham team advised MCR on the sale of The General Trading Company, famous for managing the wedding list for Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles, as a going concern to Mortimers Limited, an experienced London retailer.
