Commitment
Commitment to our employees
Speechly Bircham aims to foster a culture based on individual merit, effective teamwork and mutual respect. We seek to create an inclusive environment by ensuring our employment practices do not disadvantage any current or potential employees. We recognise each of our employees is unique and brings a breadth of experience and perspective to our firm and its clients.
Commitment to the community
At Speechly Bircham, our people are actively involved in giving their time and support to a wide range of community initiatives and charitable causes. Particular highlights in the last year have included
- contributing to the School in a Trunk appeal which helps children caught up in disasters to continue their schooling
- supporting AFASIC, the charity dedicated to helping children and young adults affected by speech, language and communication impairments
- raising money for a variety of other health related charities including the Royal Marsden Campaign, Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal National Institute for the Blind.
Commitment to the environment
Speechly Bircham is committed to making a positive contribution to protecting our environment. We promote environmental awareness firmwide, regularly assessing, updating and improving the measures we take to reduce our impact on the environment. For example,
- we work to recycle our office waste including paper, cardboard, glass and plastic bottles and steel and aluminium cans, and encourage all our staff to reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible
- waste paper is sent to paper mills for pulping and recycling whilst our archive boxes are sourced from sustainable forestry so that for each tree felled another is planted in its place
- toxic waste is disposed of safely and all printer cartridges and photocopying toners are recycled
- computers are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner or, where appropriate, offered for Third World use
- mobile telephones are disposed of by reuse and financial donation to charity
- we promote energy efficiency and encourage staff to reduce our CO2 emissions by turning off electrical equipment when not in use
- all photocopiers and printers have inbuilt energy saving devices
- cycling to work is actively encouraged by providing private bicycle parking and shower facilities.
