Aldersgate Group's first members event

This event with provide the Aldersgate Group's members with brief talks from different parties to review their environmental policies and thoughts on the changing landscape in this area in the run up to elections.

Speechly Bircham joins other City Law Firms to support the Royal British Legion and today's young veterans.

In October and November 2009 fifteen City law firms became part of the Royal British Legion’s army of volunteers over the 2009 Poppy Appeal and collected £30,000 to help support the Afghan generation of the Armed Forces family.

Speechly Bircham's pioneering campaign, ‘The i in online’ is launching events across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland for Data Protection Day on 28 January 2010.
The project aims to educate children and teenagers (as well as their teachers and parents) on the practical and legal issues associated with management and mismanagement of personal data online and in particular on social networking sites, through interactive presentations and workshops. The awareness day aims to promote best practice for use and processing of individuals personal data on the internet as well as providing educational tools on how to use and enjoy the benefits of digital citizenship. A forum discuss with the school chilren will aim to gain important feedback for a follow up report.

Speechly Bircham's contributes to new CSR book, launched in November 2009

'Climb the Green Ladder: Make Your Company and Career More Sustainable' was launched on 13 November 2009. The book gives advice and provides case studies in the CSR arena and helps organisations answers questions, including, ''do you want to help your company or organisation to save money, boosts profits and improve its brand?'' and ''Do you want to make your workplace more sustainable, get ahead in your career and improve your reputation?''. Speechly Bircham's experience in this field enabled them to contribute to case studies and share on the successes and pitfalls from our CSR programme. The Law Society shortlists Speechly Bircham for Community Investment Award

We have again been praised for our corporate social responsibility programme with the firm being shortlisted for The Community Investment Award by The Law Society Gazette Excellence Awards 2009 for our community project The i in online. Speechly Bircham is one of seven organisations who have been shortlisted for the Award which looks for best practice and innovation in community investment including fundraising and charitable giving, pro bono and non-legal volunteering .

We are pleased to announce that Speechly Bircham's CSR programme has been shortlisted in the Heart of the City category. The Heart of the City Award recognises companies that have set up a Corporate Community Involvement programme for the first time in the last three years. Speechly Bircham reduces carbon emissions by more than 40%

Our drive to measure and reduce our carbon footprint has scored a notable success, recording a 41% reduction in carbon emissions for the period May 2008/09.
This reduction equates to 722 tonnes of CO2, therefore reducing each employee’s footprint from 5.5 to 3.3 tCO2, which in comparison to other firms of a similar size, puts us well below average. From research conducted by the Carbon Neutral Company the average footprint per employee across all sectors is between five and six tCO2...read more
Launch of our new community projects

Speechly Bircham has recently launched three new community projects and a series of webinars to help support the charity sector. Each of the projects are run by staff members from across the firm and help to support the local community, including schools, youth and elderly groups as well as local charities.
